A boy goes to live with an uncle but doesn’t like it until he discovers a piano.
A high school music teacher hopes to compose a musical masterpiece one day. Life always seems to get in the way. Yet, he manages to put together a composition. It also happens that it helps his young handicapped son.

A boy, Evan, separated from his parents after birth, is now 10 years old. He decides to search for his parents. He leaves the orphanage where he was taken when a baby. He gets to New York City, but then is caught in the web of a Dickens-like character who harbors homeless young people. Along the way he plays music whenever he can, and listens to music he hears; sometimes music others can’t hear. Somehow he gets the chance to go to NYC’s Julliard School of Music at his young age. He comes to believe that the music he will create there at the school will somehow draw his missing parents to him. Meanwhile his parents – his mother a music teacher who plays the cello, and his father, part of a rock band, will happen to find each other again after all those years; but how? The school gives the boy the chance to compose then conduct his own symphony. It will be performed, outside, at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Will his parents, now happening to be in the city, although separately, sense he’s there?
